  2. You have mainly focused on the question but perhaps not tightly enough. Always endeavour to consider how the director establishes and develops generic conventions. In this film:

    1) The dark garage with the strong use of chiaroscuro lighting. The claustrophobic location, the fact that Billy is on his own, the use of shadows and cobwebs already establishes the thriller as a noir thriller.

    2) You were good on the point of view shot of Jason Locke and his loud shirt. Think about Billy's dark costume indicates he wants to remain in the shadows and not engage in the action, whilst in contrast Jason's costume and jewellery reflect the psychopathic conceit of Bill in the opening to Kill Bill 1. Always try to make as many appropriate inter textual references as you can.

    3) The tunnel is a further development of the convention whilst also a metaphor for a rifle, as if the audience are looking through the barrel of a gun.

    4) Well done for identifying the reflection suggesting jail bars, remember Jason has just been released from prison. Also a further thriller convention indicating crime and punishment.

    5) White Van Man....look up on the internet. The stereotype fits Jason!!! Also when you say white vans are used in thriller films, can you name one or you could reference the definition of white van man.

    6) Essex Marshes...you could make more of this. The primeval and predatory nature of this dangerous landscapes that has no boundaries reflects Jason's lack of moral boundaries and his savage predatory/psychopathic nature.

Well done Luke but try to develop your analysis and keep the question in mind.
